1. Having Children
Question
Should governments do more to encourage people to have children?
English Essay
A lower birth rate and an aging population have often become targets of debate in recent years, and addressing these issues has become an urgent matter. However, I believe that whether to have children is a personal choice, and governments ought not to encourage people to do so without providing solutions to the issues that are contributing to a lower birth rate. I do not think governments should encourage people to have children.
Firstly, I believe that one of the biggest factors driving people to have fewer children is financial anxiety. Global inflation has caused a drastic increase in the cost of necessities, such as food and energy. In addition, ongoing wars, diplomatic conflicts, and the climate crisis make it even more difficult for people to have children because they have little hope for a better future.
Secondly, educational and career opportunities for women have increased significantly in recent generations. Having children can change women’s lives, and some may consider it a risk. Even though society has gradually recognized that having and raising children is not only a woman’s responsibility, social expectations of women still remain. I believe that governments should consistently promote women’s rights and establish a supportive system.
I must admit that encouraging people to have children could be considered the government’s role, given the prosperity of nations. However, without concrete solutions to existing issues and realistic promises for the future, increasing the birth rate is unlikely to happen.
In conclusion, although I understand that a declining birth rate could lead nations into a crisis in the near future, encouraging people to have children without offering solutions is irresponsible and may create other problems. Therefore, I do not think governments should encourage people to have children, at least for now.

2. Remote Work
Question
Is remote work better than working in an office?
English Essay
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the nature of the working environment. In particular, many office-based jobs switched to remote work. However, despite employees’ hopes of continuing to work remotely, many companies seem to want their employees to return to the office. I believe that remote work offers a variety of benefits not only to workers but also to companies.
First of all, people can gain more time by working remotely. The efficiency gained by eliminating commuting time and stress can be a significant reason to support remote work.
Secondly, one might argue that an office environment is better for teamwork. However, it can be challenging for some people to concentrate on their tasks when others are around or when they have to work under close supervision. On the other hand, remote work allows people to work in a comfortable and familiar environment. Therefore, it reduces stress and supports productivity at their own pace.
Furthermore, although communication with others is important, especially when a job requires teamwork, communication would not be a serious problem in the age of technology. Work progress can be followed and shared smoothly through digital tools. Remote work seems to be more productive and effective than working in an office. It also allows people to wear comfortable clothes while working, when appropriate.
In conclusion, the advantages that remote work offers workers are difficult to give up once they have become accustomed to them. I believe that providing employees with a stress-free and comfortable environment is naturally beneficial for employers, too. Thus, I think remote work is better than working in an office.
